Serving The Worldwide Community – Heritage Academy Gateway Volunteers
The Christian non-profit organization, Feed My Starving Children, founded in 1987, provides nutritionally complete meal to malnourished children in many third world countries. Heritage Academy Gateway’s very own National Honors Society, Scholar Council, and Yearbook members took pleasure volunteering at the organization’s Mesa location on February 2, 2017, to pack food that was shipped to the Philippines. After an hour and a half of packing food, the group packed 80 boxes, with Heritage Academy Gateway packing over two-thirds of those boxes. In total that accounts for 19,440 meals which will feed 53 children for a year.
The scholars found the evening rewarding, fun, and surprisingly educational. Many scholars believe that even though their help didn’t feed the world, it helped 53 children in the Philippines which changed their world and felt very rewarding to all of the volunteers. A little friendly competition between the groups made the night very amusing as they raced to see which group could pack the most boxes. Scholars learned about the need for meals in third world countries, and how their service impacted those communities.
