December 12, 2017
Greetings Heritage-Gateway Faculty,
As we approach the end of the semester, I would like to update you on some leadership changes that will occur at the Gateway campus beginning January 2018.
Mr. Spencer Bowers will be transferring to the Mesa campus, where he will be directing athletic activities. I extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Bowers for his dedicated service since the opening of our Gateway campus in 2013. Mr. Bowers was instrumental in expanding Heritage Academy to the southeast valley and worked hard to continue our mission to instill a love for freedom in the young people who attend our schools. He will continue teaching Dual-Enrollment Spanish (SPA 101/102) at the Gateway campus in addition to his new responsibilities.
Ms. Kathleen Lopez has been asked to serve as the Interim Principal for the Gateway campus starting January 2018. As one of our founding teachers, Ms. Lopez brings strong leadership skills along with her extensive background in public education. She has served as Assistant Principal at Gateway since 2015 and has over 18 years of experience in public education with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Counseling.
Mr. Wade Melchin, who currently serves as the Assistant Principal on the Mesa campus, will be assisting the Gateway campus for Spring Semester. Mr. Melchin will support in academic activities and coordinate campus expansion activities, as well as support the Gateway Campus scholars and Ms. Lopez in the Spring Semester.
We are looking forward to the New Year and ask for your support of these individuals as they enter their new roles in Spring Semester. Thank you.

From our PTO:
I am happy to welcome Kathleen Lopez as our new interim principal at Heritage Academy Gateway. She has the personality, focus and patience of a great leader. I am confident that Kathleen will provide our school with continuity and great leadership. I would like to thank our founding principal, Spencer Bowers, for his hard work and dedication to this great school and our children. Spencer has worked tirelessly to build an institution of higher learning, to instill traditional values, and encourage an atmosphere of civic-duty for his scholars. I am very happy to hear that Spencer is not leaving us, but taking on expanded teaching and administrative roles at both the Gateway and Mesa campuses.
